All the Cool Tech in the 2018 Mustang GT's 5.0-Liter V8

The traditional American V8 might be decades old, but that doesn't mean the newest iterations are at all old-school. Take the 5.0-liter in the Mustang GT, for example. For 2018, Ford equipped the 5.0 with lots of cool, clever tech to make it more powerful and more fuel efficient.
Engineering Explained's Jason Fenske runs down what's new and cool about the Mustang's latest 5.0 in his latest video. This engine can trace its origins back to 2011, but Ford has updated it continually over the years. This year brings new plasma-coated cylinder linings, direct and port fuel-injection, bigger valves, and a host of other new improvements.
And a louder exhaust. That bit might not help with power and efficiency, but noise is of critical importance in a V8.
The 2017 Mustang GT's V8 offered 435 horsepower and a 7000-rpm redline, while the 2018 engine has 460 hp and 7500 rpm to play with. Big numbers for a naturally aspirated cross-plane V8.

It's a killer engine with 21st-century performance and tech. Watch Fenske's video for the full rundown, and don't you dare call this 5.0 old-fashioned.
